About
I'm Alex. I translate numbers into decisions.
Financial strategy for people-powered businesses, based in the Phoenix area.
I started Plainspoken Business Advisors because most owners I meet have a bookkeeper who records the past and a CPA who files the taxes, but no one who sits beside them and says what the numbers mean for next month. The name is the promise: plain English, no jargon, and a straight answer even when it's not the one you hoped for.
I've sat in the finance seat at scale. Fifteen years in corporate finance and operations, from Fortune 500 analyst to CFO. I led the analytics on an 800-person turnaround, built the finance function for a three-agency marketing group, rebuilt the books of a multi-channel e-commerce brand, and ran finance for a public agency. The results are here.
I've also sat in your chair. My wife and I built a small business from our garage into a shop with five employees and sold it, so I know what the week before payroll feels like.
What ties it together: almost all of it was in businesses where people are the biggest cost. That's where I'm most useful.
I hold an MBA in finance from Arizona State University and a business degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Outside work, I'm a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona and was named their Big Brother of the Year in 2026.
